Alana Butler, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. In 2015, she graduated with a Ph.D. in education from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Her research interests include the academic achievement of low-socio economic students, race and schooling, equity and inclusion, immigration and settlement studies, and multicultural education. In 2019, she was awarded a SSHRC Insight Development Grant for her study entitled Beating the Odds: An intergenerational examination of cultural barriers to postsecondary education for low-income Ontario youth. She is currently the co-chair of the University Council on Anti-Racism and Equity (UCARE).
Brenda Reed is an Education Librarian at Queen’s University, where she has worked for over twenty years. Born and raised in Gander, Newfoundland, Brenda attended the University of Western Ontario, where she completed an Honours BA in English and History, an MA in English, a BEd and a Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS). Since moving to Kingston, Brenda has completed an MEd at Queen’s. Brenda worked at libraries in Halifax and was a school librarian at Bishop’s College School in Lennoxville, Québec.
Chloe Beisheim joined the Dunin-Deshpande Queen’s Innovation Centre as a Program Coordinator in December 2017 after serving as the Digital Media Content Manager at Station 14, a local online news start-up. As a video journalist in Kingston, Canada she was immediately inspired by the vibrant community of creative entrepreneurs and wanted to tell their stories. Now, she is passionate about empowering people from any discipline or background to create change through entrepreneurship. She has a degree in Stage and Screen Studies from Queen’s University with a Certificate in Business from the Smith School of Business.
Denise Stockley, PhD, is a Professor and Scholar in Higher Education with the Office of the Provost (Teaching and Learning Portfolio) and the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen’s University. She is the President of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and represents Canada on the Council for the International Consortium for Educational Development (ICED). Her current research focuses on how we create and study environments that promote learning and the impact of national teaching awards, research ethics training, and CBME.
Kerry Ramsay is the Project Manager for the WE-CAN Project led by Queen’s University and funded by FedDev Ontario. The goal of WE-CAN is to inspire and empower existing and aspiring women entrepreneurs by providing them with resources, expert mentors and community-building opportunities to grow their existing businesses and launch new ventures. She is an experienced communications professional and post-secondary educator whose career has encompassed numerous public engagement and community engagement roles. She holds a master’s degree from the Carleton University School of Journalism and Communication and an undergraduate degree in Communications from the University of Ottawa.
Maha Al Makhamreh
Maha Al Makhamreh, PhD, is a researcher and founder and director of Women Aspire Together. She is a former teacher, principal, and educational/management advisor. Maha holds an MBA degree from Henley Business School in the UK and a PhD degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Maha’s areas of specialization are within leadership and policy. She developed a framework that helps leaders enhance people’s well-being and performance—Relational/Positive Leadership (RPL) model.
Rebecca Luce-Kapler, PhD, is Dean of Education, Queen’s University, a professor, and a writer. She is leading the Faculty’s strong social justice vision from supporting students in Kingston’s challenged neighbourhoods to partnering with the 1 Million Teachers Project in Africa. She is the winner of the Michener Medal in Fine Arts for writing and has published more than 50 poems and two books of poetry, most recently, The Negation of Chronology: Imagining Geraldine Moodie.

Women Aspire Together is a Canadian initiative that aims to build a supportive community to empower and inspire all women by offering 3 venues:
We help women express themselves in Women Aspire Together magazine by writing on a specific theme in each edition.
We organize activities.
We highlight the engagement of women in their organizations/societies such as, conferences, workshops, lectures, sports, arts exhibitions, and so forth.
We help connect organizations’ needs with experts.
We present evidence-based research to help mobilize knowledge.
